Hubert Davis’ first four seasons at the helm of North Carolina Tar Heels basketball have been a rollercoaster. He went to a national championship game as a No. 8 seed in his first year as the North Carolina basketball head coach. Davis then earned a No. 1 seed but was eliminated in the Sweet 16 a season ago, and missed the NCAA Tournament entirely in 2023. Now, he will turn to the college basketball transfer portal in order to beef up the North Carolina basketball roster and get back into title-contention.

The Tar Heels are already lining up visitors and have until April 22 when the transfer portal closes to overhaul the look of UNC basketball lineup. So who are the top North Carolina transfer targets and how can Davis get this program back to the top of the mountain in the ACC and on a national stage? North Carolina basketball roster news

After scoring 2,725 points over five seasons, RJ Davis will leave North Carolina as the No. 2 scorer in program history behind only Tyler Hansbrough. With Davis out of eligibility and sophomore guard Elliott Cadeau entering the college basketball transfer portal shortly after it opened, the Tar Heels have a big hole at guard to fill and that should be a focus over the next three weeks while the portal remains open.

San Diego State point guard Nick Boyd is scheduled to be on campus for a visit on April 3 after averaging 13.4 points and 3.9 assists for the Aztecs last season. Boyd scored 12 points against UNC when the Tar Heels routed SDSU in the First Four. Boyd also previously played at FAU, but left for San Diego State after head coach Dusty May left to take the Michigan job. He will have one remaining year of eligibility after making his transfer decision. Get the latest North Carolina basketball roster news from InsideCarolina.
