The Colorado Avalanche changed their starting goalie for Game 4 of their series against the Minnesota Wild.

The move paid off as Mackenzie Blackwood made 19 saves on Monday, May 11 in a 5-2 win that gave the Avalanche a 3-1 series lead.

Blackwood had replaced Scott Wedgewood in Game 3 after Wedgewood gave up Minnesota’s third goal early in the second period. Blackwood stopped 12 of 13 shots in his first appearance in the 2026 playoffs.

“Like I said at the start of the playoffs, we’re probably going to need both guys,” Bednar said before Monday’s game. “That’s how we ran all year. We have confidence in both guys. Mackenzie’s ready to play. He wants the net.”

Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon was bloodied by a puck, but returned and scored an empty net goal.
