Eddie Howe has admitted Joelinton is a doubt to face Arsenal on Wednesday with a knee injury, but he played down fears of a serious problem for the midfielder.

Newcastle United fans were handed an injury scare over the weekend, as Joelinton was spotted in a knee brace after their game against Fulham.

Eddie Howe has since confirmed that Joelinton is a doubt to face Arsenal in Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final second leg, but insists that the player was wearing the brace as a precautionary measure.

“Joey had a knee brace on as a precaution,” Howe said. “I would say he is a doubt (for Arsenal), but we will give him every chance to be fit.”

Journalist Joel Bland reports that Joelinton travelled to London on Monday to see a specialist about the injury, adding to the doubts surrounding the player’s participation in midweek.

But if that specialist gave a firm view on whether or not the 28-year-old could feature against Arsenal, Howe certainly wasn’t giving the answer away in his press conference.

In other Newcastle injury news, Callum Wilson could potentially return to the squad after his injury, but it’s a close thing.

“There is a chance,” Howe said. “We have another training session to get through so we will see. Let’s get through training before we make a decision.”
