  • A 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS fitted with the Manthey Upgrade Kit set a new Road Atlanta track record with a time of 1:22.649.
  • This time beats the previous record, set by a standard GT2 RS, by 2.2 seconds.
  • A 911 GT3 and GT3 RS with Manthey Upgrades also set faster times compared to the standard versions of the same cars.

With a bog-standard Porsche 911, you have an incredibly capable and entertaining sports car. Climb the 911 ranks, however, and what becomes possible continues to impress and even leave you in awe. The kings atop Mount 911 bear the letters GT in their names… but even those models could be pushed farther.

Manthey Racing is a race team and tuner that is also partially owned by Porsche. The company offers its Manthey Kit for various top-tier trims of the 911. There’s no extra power, nor a need to shed any more weight. Instead, you get tremendous suspension tuning improvements and extra aero that turn your already track-focused machine into a finely honed weapon.

To prove this point, Porsche just took a trio of Manthey-upgraded 911 GT cars to Road Atlanta. And I’ll spoil the ending; there’s a new production-car track record there.

Porsche hot shoe Joerg Bergmeister, driving a 2019 911 GT2 RS with the Manthey Kit, delivered a new record lap time of 1:22.649. That beats the previous track record by 2.2 seconds, and that prior record was set by a standard GT2 RS.

According to Bergmeiester, “The downforce of this car is simply incredible. Cornering speeds are on the level of GT-class race cars. The suspension soaks up curbs really well and helps to extract the maximum potential from this impressive package and the braking is on another level.”

Aiming to further drive home the point that a Manthey-upgraded car is serious business, Porsche brought out a 911 GT3 and GT3 RS. Each wears the upgrade kit available for its specific trim. And each one went around the track much more quickly compared to its respective non-upgraded version.

In fact, the 2025 911 GT3 RS with the Manthey Kit posted a lap time of 1:23.032, making it the fastest naturally aspirated production car to run the course.

Motor1’s Take: The Manthey Kit upgrade is an expensive proposition for an already extremely expensive machine. You’re going to spend between $70,000 and $150,000, depending on which model 911 you have, and how fully you spec the kit.

But if you’re the sort with the singular goal of ever faster lap times, and an accountant encouraging you to spend as much of your money as possible, this seems like the right step to take to go from track rat to track god.
