The Philadelphia Flyers made a big move late last month when they traded Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2028 seventh-round pick.

However, one NHL insider expects Kuzmenko’s time in Philly to be short.

In his latest trade board for Sportsnet, NHL insider Nick Kypreos wrote that it is “likely” that Kuzmenko will be traded by the Flyers before the deadline passes.

“Andrei Kuzmenko is not the greatest fit for the team and it’s not likely they have a whole lot of use for him,” Kyreos wrote. “The fact is the Flyers are likely to quickly flip Kuzmenko ahead of the trade deadline.”

Kuzmenko, 29, is a pending unrestricted free agent with a $5.5 million cap hit. If the Flyers do not view him as a long-term part of their future, they certainly could move him if he generates interest.

Kuzmenko made his Flyers debut on Feb. 8 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he had an assist and a minus-1 rating. In 38 games this season split between the Flames and Flyers, he has four goals, 16 points, and a minus-8 rating. This includes three goals and six points over his last six contests.

As a rookie in 2022-23 with the Vancouver Canucks, Kuzmenko had 39 goals and 74 points in 81 games. He also had 14 goals and 25 points in 29 games last season with the Flames after being traded there. While Kuzmenko’s numbers are down this season, his past offensive success could lead to him generating some interest. This is especially so if he continues to stay hot

It will be interesting to see what the Flyers end up doing with Kuzmenko from here.
