Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured Matheus Cunha with a long-term contract extension, despite strong interest in him during the winter transfer window.

However, speculation about his future still lingers. Cunha has become an important player for Wolves, excelling in various attacking roles and making a significant impact.

Reports from Fichajes indicate that whether playing as an attacking midfielder, second striker, or center-forward, the Brazilian has adapted smoothly, attracting interest from clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Wolves highly value Cunha, but sources suggest they may consider offers over €70 million. Sky Sports News previously reported that Nottingham Forest made a club-record bid of around £60 million for him in January.

The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal could be a potential destination for Cunha, with sporting director Andrea Berta having been behind the forward’s signing at Atletico Madrid in 2021. Cunha has a £62.5M release clause.

With rumors swirling about his potential move from Wolves, Cunha opened up about his future, suggesting a departure this summer might be on the cards.

“I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” Cunha told The Guardian. “Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
