The NASCAR Cup Series heads to World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on Sunday for the Enjoy Illinois 300, the second race of the 2026 Chase and another major opportunity for championship contenders to strengthen their position.
The race is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on USA Network, with the field set to battle for 240 laps around the 1.25-mile oval in Madison, Illinois.

Denny Hamlin Looks to Go Back-to-Back
One of the biggest storylines entering Sunday is defending race winner Denny Hamlin.
Hamlin enters Gateway as the championship points leader and will be looking to repeat his performance from last year’s race. He has also established himself as one of the strongest drivers at the track, making him one of the favorites heading into the weekend.
However, Hamlin will have plenty of competition.
Christopher Bell enters with tremendous momentum after winning last weekend’s Southern 500 at Darlington. Bell is also coming off his first victory of the 2026 season and has three top-10 finishes in four career Gateway starts.

The Chase Pressure Is Rising
With the playoffs underway, every mistake becomes more costly.
The Gateway race is only the second event of the Chase, meaning drivers still have plenty of opportunities to gain ground, but a poor finish could create significant pressure heading into the next round.
Drivers such as Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott and Joey Logano will all be looking to put themselves in position to fight for the win while protecting their championship hopes.
Gateway Will Test the Tires
Gateway is a unique 1.25-mile track that puts significant stress on the tires.
Goodyear is bringing the same tire configuration used during last year’s Gateway race, giving teams valuable information heading into Sunday’s event. NASCAR notes that the track creates additional heat and stress on the tires, making tire management and long-run speed especially important.

That could make pit strategy a huge factor late in the race.
Who Will Win?
This race feels like it could come down to the final 50 laps.
Hamlin has the experience and recent success at Gateway, while Bell enters with momentum after his Darlington victory. Blaney, Reddick and Larson also have the speed to challenge for the win.
Gateway has a history of producing strategic and physical races, and with the Chase underway, expect drivers to be aggressive when the opportunity presents itself.
Prediction: Denny Hamlin goes back-to-back at Gateway and takes another huge step toward the championship.
