21-year-old NASCAR driver Thomas Annunziata made his season debut on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series today driving the No. 1 car for Tricon Garage. He ended the day in the hospital.
On the 80th lap of today’s race at Lime Rock Park, Annunziata was running P2 under caution and was positioned to win or at least secure his best-ever finish in a NASCAR race. But as he reached the front, his truck burst into flames and became engulfed in smoke.

Annunziata was thankfully able to exit the vehicle on his own power, but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
“Thomas Annunziata is awake and alert and being transported to an area medical facility for further evaluation,” Tricon Garage said in a statement.
Fans on social media offered their sighs of relief that Annunziata is okay after what must have been a downright terrifying moment for him:
“Hated this. Hope @tannunziata15 is ok 🙏🏻 you did an excellent job today, man!” one user wrote on X.

“Man he got out of that truck quick! Great sight to see,” wrote another.
“Great to see him get out!!! Prayers that he isn’t injured and gets rest!!!” a third wrote.
“That was terrifying. Glad he’s out.”
“It’s like that truck just decided to give up. So strange.”

Annunziata’s Promising Career
At 21 years of age, Annunziata is already showing signs that he has a bright future in racing. He’s in his first full season for Nitro Motorsports in the ARCA Menards Series and currently ranks second on the overall table after securing a win at Lime Rock Park on Friday.

Annunziata has also gotten a few opportunities in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, competing in 18 races between 2024 and 2025. But he has yet to finish higher than 17th in a race.
