The NASCAR Cup Series Darlington race weekend begins with the Cook Out Southern 500 qualifying on Sept. 5 at Darlington Raceway.
The 16-driver Chase begins at the egg-shaped oval in South Carolina known to chew up and spit out fenders and tire rubber.

Denny Hamlin’s lead is much shorter than it was a week ago by way of the Chase seeding and points reset. Hamlin leads Ryan Blaney by 25 points ahead of the 10-race Chase for the championship.
If drivers in the bottom half of the top 16 want to make a title run, Darlington will be a good time to start.
