NASCAR isn’t waiting until Sunday to react to the weather.
With forecasts showing the potential for rain and thunderstorms later in the day, NASCAR announced Saturday that the start time for Sunday’s Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway has been moved up by one hour.

The Great American Getaway 400 presented by VisitPA.com will now begin at 1 p.m. ET, giving officials a larger window to complete the 160-lap event before weather potentially becomes a factor.
The move comes less than 24 hours before the green flag is scheduled to wave and underscores just how closely NASCAR is monitoring conditions heading into one of the most important race weekends of the summer.
NASCAR Takes Action Before Race Day
Rather than waiting to see how the forecast develops on Sunday morning, NASCAR elected to make the adjustment in advance.
Forecasts for Long Pond, Pennsylvania, continue to show the possibility of showers and thunderstorms developing later in the afternoon. By moving the start time forward, NASCAR improves its chances of completing the full race distance before weather arrives.

The decision impacts Sunday’s Cup Series race only.
While weather-related schedule changes are not uncommon in NASCAR, they typically occur much closer to race time. Making the move on Saturday provides teams, fans, broadcasters, and track officials additional time to adjust plans before race day.
It’s also a sign NASCAR believes the weather threat is significant enough to warrant proactive action.
For fans attending the race, the earlier start means gates, travel plans, and race-day schedules may need slight adjustments. For teams, it creates a clearer picture heading into Sunday’s event.
Weather Adds Another Variable at the ‘Tricky Triangle’
Pocono Raceway already presents one of the toughest challenges on the NASCAR schedule.

Known as the “Tricky Triangle,” the 2.5-mile speedway features three distinctly different corners, forcing teams to compromise on setup more than at nearly any other track. Strategy, track position, fuel mileage, and tire management often play major roles in determining the winner.
Now weather has entered the equation as well.
Sunday’s race arrives at a critical point in the regular season, with playoff positions becoming increasingly important as drivers chase victories and valuable points before the postseason begins.
An earlier start could help ensure the race runs uninterrupted, but teams will still be keeping a close eye on the forecast throughout the weekend.
For now, NASCAR has made its move.
The sanctioning body saw enough concern in Sunday’s weather outlook to adjust one of the weekend’s biggest events before race day even arrived.
