NASCAR announced the launch of Dega-Con, a new fan campaign celebrating the 20th anniversary of Talladega Nights. The celebration will culminate during Talladega Superspeedway’s NASCAR Playoffs weekend, Oct. 23-25, with entertainment, fan experiences and collaborations designed to celebrate the movie’s lasting place in NASCAR culture.

The campaign marks one of NASCAR’s biggest pop culture activations in recent years, tying one of the sport’s most famous films directly into one of its biggest race weekends.

According to NASCAR, additional details surrounding Dega-Con will be announced over the coming weeks, but organizers say the event will combine entertainment, nostalgia and fan experiences throughout Talladega’s fall race weekend.
The campaign officially launched with a humorous video centered around “Talladega Nights Withdrawal Syndrome,” a fictional condition that features Cup Series drivers Chase Briscoe, Noah Gragson, Ross Chastain, Ryan Preece and Riley Herbst.

Released in 2006, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” starred Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby alongside John C. Reilly as rival Cal Naughton Jr. While the comedy wasn’t filmed entirely at Talladega Superspeedway, it helped cement the Alabama track’s place in popular culture and introduced countless casual fans to NASCAR through memorable characters and endlessly quotable lines.
Nearly 20 years later, the movie continues to be referenced throughout the NASCAR garage and remains one of the sport’s most recognizable connections to mainstream entertainment.
Dega-Con arrives during Talladega’s playoff weekend
This year’s Talladega fall weekend will feature all three national series, beginning with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on Friday, followed by the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series on Saturday and the NASCAR Cup Series’ YellaWood 500 on Sunday.

NASCAR said Dega-Con will continue expanding as more attractions, collaborations and fan experiences are announced leading up to the October event.
