Endrick’s third season at Real Madrid could look very different from what the fans have associated him with.
According to a report from The Athletic, new manager Jose Mourinho is considering using the Brazilian in a right-wing role as he looks for solutions in an area of the pitch that remains far from settled.

The idea is not necessarily about changing Endrick’s long-term position.
Rather, it is about finding the best way to maximise one of the club’s most talented young attackers in a squad where competition for central roles remains fierce.
With Kylian Mbappe established as Real Madrid’s first-choice striker and Vinicius Jr. untouchable on the left flank, opportunities in Endrick’s preferred positions are limited.
That reality has encouraged Mourinho to explore an alternative route that could increase the youngster’s involvement next season.

As seen during the 2025/26 season, the right wing has become one of the few attacking positions where Real Madrid still have unanswered questions.
On paper, the club possesses options, as Rodrygo would normally be among the leading candidates for the role, while Franco Mastantuono remains one of the most promising young talents at the club.
However, circumstances have complicated the picture.
Rodrygo is not expected to return until later in the year, while uncertainty surrounds Mastantuono’s immediate future after a difficult campaign.
As reported before, a loan move remains a possibility, which would leave Mourinho with fewer natural right-wing solutions than expected and that situation has created an opportunity for Endrick.

How Endrick’s skill set fits the role

His explosive acceleration, ability to attack defenders in one-versus-one situations and powerful left foot make him an intriguing candidate to operate from the right side before cutting inside.
In theory, operating from the right would allow Endrick to attack central areas on his stronger foot, creating shooting opportunities while also opening space for overlapping full-backs.

It is a tactical approach that has become increasingly common among top teams across Europe.
However, there is an important caveat. Endrick has spent most of his development as a central attacker.
His instincts, movement and decision-making have largely been influenced by playing closer to the penalty area rather than hugging the touchline.
The transition would therefore require adaptation, patience and tactical coaching, something where Mourinho will have to act as a mentor rather than just a coach.
