Jake Paul added Mike Tyson to his resume with a unanimous decision victory Friday night in front of a huge crowd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and a presumably massive audience that watched the fight live on Netflix.

The judges were split on just one round on their scorecards with Tyson winning just one round according to two of the judges. The other had a clean sweep for “The Problem Child.”

We go to the cards in #PaulTyson: 80-72, 79-73 x2 all for Jake Paul. #boxing

That one round given to Tyson might have been one of the earlier ones. Iron Mike and Paul both got off to slow starts in the first round. However, Tyson was aggressive in the early going even if it looked like he might have been fighting through a knee injury.

Unfortunately, that lack of activity wasn’t just a product of the early rounds for Tyson. It was the norm. The former heavyweight champion just had limited movement and couldn’t seem to string together the kind of combinations he needed to have a valid offense.

There were plenty of analysts and athletes that took to social media to air their grievances.

Mike made me get my Netflix account back for nothing

Just sad smh. I cut it off because I couldn’t watch anymore. It’s sad to see Mike Tyson like this because I went to every Tyson fight.
This fight tonight was not great for boxing.

Shea Serrano @SheaSerrano

going from the taylor-serrano fight to the paul-tyson fight is like if you watched the super bowl and then immediately after the super bowl you watched two people play paper football on a table in denny’s at 3am

All of that being said, this was likely a nice payday for both fighters involved. While there hasnt’ been an official purse number that has been discussed publicly.

It’s safe to say that both fighters were well-compensated for their time and promotion of the fight. Paul might have let it slip how much he could stand to make on Friday night noting that he was “here to make $40 million and knock out a legend,” per Damon Martin of MMA Fighting, at a pre-fight press conference in August.

Paul will be laughing his way to the bank after easily handling the living legend. Tyson did not pose a major threat to the 27-year-old and he created a nice payday for himself by drawing the fight with the former champion.

Given the success that he had in this fight both inside the ring and outside of the Ring, Paul is likely to continue pushing for these kinds of matchups. It’s a great way for him to extend his boxing dream while ensuring the huge crowds and massive paychecks keep him.
