Texas Rangers pitcher Michel Otanez has cleared waivers and been outrighted to AAA Round Rock, the team announced today.

Otanez was designated for assignment last week when the Rangers needed to open a 40 man roster spot when they were adding Joe Ross to the active roster. Originally signed by the New York Mets in 2018, Otanez signed with the (then) Oakland A’s prior to the 2024 season. He split the 2024 and 2025 seasons between the majors and minors, was designated for assignment at the end of 2025, and was then claimed on waivers by the Rangers.

With Otanez having cleared waivers and gotten outrighted, he will presumably continue to pitch in the Express bullpen going forward. If the Rangers do not add him back to the 40 man roster between now and the end of the season, he will become a free agent at season’s end and be eligible to sign with any team.

In 26.1 innings over 25 games for Round Rock this season, Otanez has a 6.15 ERA with 37 Ks against 25 walks.
