It’s going to be a while before we know the full impact of the Micah Parsons trade, but it so far appears to be working out for the Green Bay Packers.

The team is 2-0 and has looked dominant early in the season, with its new All-Pro pass-rusher notching sacks in both games. After Thursday’s 27-18 win (which was more lopsided than the score suggests), the Lambeau Field faithful showed their gratitude for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for making the trade.

Parsons, who left Dallas with no love lost for the Cowboys brass, egged them on as they chanted “Thank you, Jerry.”

As a 26-year-old who has been one of the best defensive players in the league since his rookie year, the Parsons trade is seemingly unprecedented. Teams simply don’t trade players of that caliber, age and position, unless they have a very public falling out over a contract extension.

The Packers landed Parsons by sending over first-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027 plus veteran defensive lineman Kenny Clark. Even though Parsons is dealing with a back sprain, he has already started strong for Green Bay, posting a team-high eight pressures Thursday, per Next Gen Stats.

Jones defended the trade by comparing it to the Herschel Walker trade that famously helped build the team’s 1990s dynasty (though in a very different era) and arguing that the run defense provided by Clark could give the team a boost even in the short term. Dallas allowed 302 rushing yards in its season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Parsons trade is essentially the NFL’s most flamboyant owner staking his reputation on his team being able to overcome the loss of his biggest draft success story of the past decade. It’s probably not a good sign the Packers fan base is already declaring victory.
