With all expectations pointing to our Miami Dolphins rolling with a run-first approach on offense with a new starter at quarterback in Malik Willis, who is known for his ability to pick up yardage and first downs with his legs, I asked the following question last week:

Considering Malik Willis’ aggressive style of play, should the team prioritize carrying three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster? If so, do you believe the current roster has three capable options, or should the team look to the waiver wire or a trade to secure that third spot?

Below are some of your thoughts and answers-

Educated money, a self-described “football guru,” says two is enough. Also, can we retire the terms “hater” and “haters” for those who just happen to not hold the same opinion as ours, already?

Two is definitely sufficient considering we’re gonna be more of a run attack style offense so with that being said, I think this team can surprise a lot of teams considering they don’t have any film on this offense this quarterback, this new coaching staff so I think if our coaches can actually coach we should be able to win 10 to 12 games with a young healthy roster and let me put things in perspective for most of you people out there the critics if you will if you’re in the NFL you can play football. So for all the haters and the doubters out there, we can win 10 to 12 games and make the playoffs and if we want to shock the football world, let’s win a few playoff games as well. I fully believe we can do that with this roster only if the coaches are any good.? so with that being said to the media, why don’t we start shining a bigger light on the coaches and their play calling and how they bond with the players as far as everyone buying in and in all fairness talent wise all 32 teams in the NFL are equal the difference is the coaching and the plays that they call for their players because an outstanding coach knows their players and creates plays for their players. I am a football guru and I do know what I’m talking about.

Ejplaya says roll with two and maybe put one on the PS.

Two is definitely enough. We’re not going anywhere, and you have an okay backup in ewers. If malik goes down he starts and you bring in one of the two off the street that went through training camp. Not likely either is getting signed. If you want to waste a practice squad spot on one of them, then fine.

Dolfanjoe says to go with two and two.

Two on the active roster, 2 QBs on the practice squad. If we get into the third and fourth QB on the roster, well like any other team were screwed ! But just think about the QBs we could give a shot with. No telling what we might find while not winning a game………………………..

NeenerWhacker says roll with two because if they both go down, we might as well mail it in.

Two is plenty. Our season is already on thin ice, lose Willis and Ewers and we may go winless. And better off going winless in that case.

PA phinphan is in agreement with SuperG! and just about everyone else.

I am with G. Two is good. Don’t waste a spot on a 3rd stringer. Let another young guy get on the roster to see what they can do.

FLexile says if they both go down, just call up whichever washed-up-ex-Phin you can find.

If Willis and Ewers both go down, just get Tannehill out of retirement to finish out the season. If he says no, Chad Henne? Chad Pennington?

MiamiItaliano says go with Willis and Ewers and sign Gronowski to the practice squad.

Willis and Ewers on the main roster. I think Gronowski plays well enough to earn a PS contract. Miller is gone.

SuperG! believes that we can look to last season as a guide.

Yes. I don’t want to waste a roster spot on a 3rd stringer. We did that last year and the emergency 3rd QB never came into the game. Keep whoever it is between Gronowski or Miller on the PS. Use that roster spot on one of the new guys who might have more of a chance to play.

StanleyDoyle1 believes that Willis’ build will help him survive the season.

Willis is built like an RB, so he should be pretty durable. But if the plan is to have him run RPO all day, he won’t last the season. The smart move would be to model the route taken by another great athlete turned excellent QB – Lamar Jackson. Jackson learned – or maybe is still in the process of learning – to ween off his leg game, and has upgraded his passing game to avoid injury. That better be the plan with Willis, or we will never learn whether he can be a complete QB.

TheRoo1, in response to StanleyDoyle1, believes that Willis’ game, as it applies to being a passer, has improved.

Willis has already improved his passing game. His completion percentage has improved year over year as he has sought other training on his game.

The need for a third QB however still stands as a leader for the scout team needs to be someone other than Ewers.

Whoever the coaches prefer, Miller or Gronowski will get that spot, but do they dare let them go to the waiver process in order to get them on the practice squad?

It’s rare that we get any sort of true consensus around here, but this is clearly a subject where everyone agrees. Two QB’s on the roster are enough, and it’s hard to disagree with now that fragile Tua has moved on, not to mention that the 53-man roster really doesn’t allow for adequate depth across the board as it is.
