In the words of Mets interim manager Andy Green, starting pitcher Christian Scott was “pretty dominant” in the team’s 1-0 loss to the Braves on Wednesday night.
For the first time this season, Scott pitched six full innings. He threw 98 pitches and struck out seven batters, allowing five hits and just one earned run.

“That’s as far as he’s been pushed at any point in time,” Green said of the right-hander. “He gave us a chance to win, and went toe-to-toe with one of the best in the league [Chris Sale] today.”
From the very start of the game, Scott looked destined to push on into the latter stages. He threw just 43 pitches through four innings.
“I did a good job attacking the zone early, especially in the first couple of innings,” said Scott as he reflected on his performance. “My cutter was playing really good as well.”
Scott, who now holds a sub-3.00 ERA, is clearly confident pounding the zone, even against fearsome lineups such as Atlanta’s.

“My stuff was playing all night. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel.”
Finally, Scott was asked whether he felt that tonight’s performance felt like clearing a hurdle in regard to being able to consistently pitch deep into ballgames.
“Maybe a little bit. Obviously, this is my first time doing it, but I have to keep being me… hopefully the next time, it’s seven [innings],” Scott chuckled.
