During the winter transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain sought to offload players no longer part of their plans, and Marco Asensio was among those on the move.

Since November 30, Asensio’s role at PSG has been limited. The former Real Madrid forward has fallen out of the starting lineup and has made only a few appearances as a substitute.

On Sunday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Aston Villa had agreed to sign Asensio on loan from PSG. This move will not affect the potential loan of Marcus Rashford to Villa, which could include an option to buy.

PSG is content with this short-term arrangement for Asensio, as Villa will cover his full wages. Fabrizio Romano later confirmed that Villa will pay Asensio’s full salary through June, with PSG agreeing to a straight loan without a buy option.

Marco Asensio talks about playing in the Premier League

Asensio spoke to Aston Villa’s official website and shared his genuine feelings about joining a number of fellow Spaniards who have made the move to play in the Premier League.

“Lots of my team-mates have spoken about the Premier League, that it’s the best league in the world for a lot of reasons; because of the players, because of the fans, because of the competition, every game is very difficult, the level is very, very high,” Asensio said.

“And well, it’s something incredible, being able to play in the Premier League. I’m looking forward to measuring myself against the best teams in the world every weekend and that’s something for a player like me. It’s an objective in my career and I’m pleased that I can achieve it now.”
