FC Barcelona could find themselves in a situation where they can benefit financially in a big way before the transfer window closes through a deal involving one of their former players.

Mika Marmol, currently at UD Las Palmas, is attracting interest from AS Roma as well as Sevilla, with Barça retaining 50% of his rights.

Now, another former La Masia talent, Nico Gonzalez, playing at FC Porto is the subject of transfer speculation.

Man City want Nico Gonzalez

According to Fabrizio Romano, Premier League champions Manchester City have opened talks to sign Nico Gonzalez from Porto – a deal which would bring significant revenue for Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola’s side have made a formal approach for the Spanish talent and are in talks with the Portuguese giants as they seek to add a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Nico has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract with Porto, while Barcelona hold a 40% future sell-on clause.

As per the update from Romano, Porto are unwilling to let the ex-La Masia talent leave and will only consider his departure for a significantly high fee.

In that scenario, the Blaugrana will stand to benefit greatly as they would be entitled to 40% of the transfer fee that Manchester City pay to Porto for Nico.

Should the deal go ahead swiftly, it might also open the doors for Barcelona to sign Marcus Rashford, whose pursuit has hit a standstill owing to the lack of salary space.
