Texas Tech will wear special uniforms featuring former quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ “Gladiator” brand logo as part of their partnership with adidas for the team’s Nov. 9 game against Colorado. This is one of the first times in college football history that an athlete’s personal brand has been represented on an on-field uniform.
“Seeing my own logo on the Texas Tech uniform I put so much blood, sweat and tears in is one of the most meaningful off-field accomplishments of my career,” Mahomes said in a statement. “I want to thank the three-stripe family for giving me this one-of-a-kind opportunity.”
The kit is a departure from Texas Tech’s standard look. It boasts a largely metallic grey colorway accented by the school’s standard “Power Red”. Mahomes’ logo can be seen on the left side of the chest, opposite the Big 12 Conference logo, and near the waste band of the pants.
Mahomes, now a three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time NFL MVP with the Kansas City Chiefs, has been heavily involved with his alma mater since moving on. In August, adidas and Mahomes announced that they signed six student-athletes to a name, image and likeness (NIL) initiative called “Team Mahomes.” Texas Tech freshman wide receiver Micah Hudson was one of the six athletes included in the deal.
Mahomes starred at Texas Tech from 2014-16. He finished his career with 857 completions for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns. He also rushed for 22 touchdowns and was selected by the Chiefs with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
