Two weeks after winning the 2026 Minnesota State Open, Muzzy Donohue is having a dream week at the 2026 3M Open on the PGA Tour.
Donohue rallied from a Thursday 73 with a Friday 63 to climb inside the top 20 at the halfway mark of the event at TPC Twin Cities.

In fact, while Michael Kim was signing his card after posting the 16th-ever sub-60 round in PGA Tour history, Donohue was threatening to match. Donohue was 8 under through 13 holes and the words “59 watch” were being every so slightly muttered again in Blaine, Minnesota.

It was a short-live dream as three straight pars ensued. He did birdie the 17th but closed with a bogey. Still, that 63 was 10 shots better than 24 hours earlier. More importantly, this out-of-nowhere story will head to the weekend.
“It was unreal. It’s hard to put words to it. I mean, I’ve never really experienced this before,” Donohue, 25, said. “This is my first PGA Tour event. I mean, the most fans I’ve had watching are maybe 50, probably 50, at the state open a few weeks ago.”

Those fans are certainly rooting for the local player who was a hockey goalie in high school.
“It’s been awesome being kind of the hometown kid, having a bunch of my friends come out and watch,” he said. “I’m not used to hearing some roars for the birdie putts dropping, so that’s super fun for me. Then yeah, a couple of my college buddies came out, flew out from Boston and came to watch, too. I mean, it’s really cool to see all the support.”
Donohue played at Boston College. His cousin Harrison is working as his caddie. It’s a family affair with his parents, three siblings and grandpa in the gallery this week. However, there’s a key person not present. On Monday, Donohue’s grandmother passed away. He has “grandma” marked on his golf balls this week to honor her.

“My grandma was definitely with me this week, too. Or today. Yesterday she left me for the first 10 holes or so, then she kind of came into play,” he quipped. “Yeah, she’s looking down on me and looking out for me. It was a good day.”
He says he’s expecting her spirit to tag along this weekend.
“Hopefully she’s not sick of me and will stick around the next couple days.”
As for the name Muzzy, the backstory, according to an article in the Minnesota Star Tribune, is that he and his siblings and cousins used to watch a Spanish cartoon featuring a little green monster named Muzzy and everyone started calling him that.
