Liverpool are reportedly accelerating a move to replace Mo Salah.

Few players in the club’s modern history have been adored as much as the Egyptian star. Salah has been crowned at Anfield and his legacy will endure for generations to come.

There is no question he has become one of the defining figures of a hugely successful era under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

His unbridled ability to score goals helped turn Liverpool back into a dominant force. Without him, there would be no 20th Premier League title for the Reds. For many supporters, Salah is not just a great player but a club icon. One of the best to ever play at Anfield.

However, football moves quickly, and this summer may represent a natural turning point. Salah will have just one year remaining on his contract, and his form has dipped compared to the remarkable standards he set over previous seasons.

With interest from Saudi Arabia likely to remain strong, Liverpool may see this window as their final chance to command a significant transfer fee.

It would be a difficult decision but one that makes sense.

The only question is who would replace him? Well it seems like Richard Hughes has already set his sights on a bold target.

Liverpool want to add more speed and one vs one quality to their attack this summer.

These are aspects of Salah’s game that he has lost a little bit of quality in over the course of the last year or so.

Yet even with that dip in form, finding someone to step into his shoes is not easy.

There aren’t just magically world-class right-wingers in abundance in the market. They are rare and usually come at a premium price.

Unfortunately, for Liverpool they are going to have to pay a premium, especially if they are to pursue a move for their no.1 target.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are ready to accelerate a move for Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig, who they view as their ideal Salah replacement.

The report claims that Manchester United have also accelerated their efforts to sign the 19-year-old wonderkid.

It’s very much open at this stage, who will land Diomande. Although with his heart leaning towards Anfield, where his father dreams of him playing one day, the Reds definitely have a massive advantage.

Diomande has been brilliant for Leipzig, and Las Palmas before that. However, there is no denying that this would be a bold move from Hughes.

Leipzig are believed to be looking at in excess of £80m for their exciting winger.

That’s a huge figure to pay for a player who has just one and a half seasons of experience playing in professional football.

Liverpool have an elite recruitment team and they will of course assess the pros and cons of this deal. But right now, it’s looking very likely that Diomande is going to be the heir to Salah’s throne.

On paper, it looks like an exciting move. Exactly the type of move that Liverpool need right now. But there is no denying it will inevitably come with an element of risk. Most transfers do.
