LIV Golf closure rumors peaking as tournament postponed appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

LIV Golf has been a tour funded by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) since 2022. But recent reports indicate that the PIF is changing its model moving forward, which could cut funding for the PGA Tour’s rival circuit. The Louisiana government saw that report and asked the league to figure it out, or the event in New Orleans would be postponed. On Tuesday, LIV Golf announced that the Louisiana event was postponed, but did not mention funding or closure.

“This shift allows us to avoid the peak summer heat and the crowded global sports calendar while ensuring the course is in the championship condition our fans and players expect,” a statement from the league reads, in part. The event was postponed from June to an undisclosed date in the fall, when it would go against LSU and New Orleans Saints football.

In a statement from Governor Jeff Landry and Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois, weather and calendars are not mentioned. “The state has already paid $3.2 million in accordance with the contract. LIV is expected to return all state incentive funds, with the exception of the $2 million already invested in upgrades for City Park, ensuring those improvements remain in place for the community. We appreciate LIV’s good-faith efforts and look forward to maintaining our partnership as we continue conversations around an event later this year.”

LIV Golf may not exist after the 2026 season, despite executives trying to distract from the New York Times and The Athletic reporting. The Mexico City event went on that week, even though Bryson DeChambeau was furious about course conditions and withdrew with an injury. Now, their schedule is changing, and a hole from June 7 to July 24 is open. The season is supposed to end on August 30th, but the Louisiana event may come later in the year.
