Spain have several internationals playing in England’s top flight, with Mariona Caldentey at Arsenal, Leila Ouahabi at Manchester City and Jana Fernandez at London City Lionesses.

Germany have Rebecca Knaak and Sydney Lohmann at Manchester City, as well as Sjoeke Nusken at Chelsea.

France are represented by Melvine Malard at Manchester United, Kelly Gago at Everton and Sandy Baltimore at Chelsea.

There are 12 Netherlands internationals in the league too, including Lynn Wilms at Aston Villa, Danielle van de Donk at London City, and Katja Snoeijs at Everton.

Sweden, who lost to England in a dramatic penalty shootout at the Euros, have eight internationals in the WSL. Among that group are Nathalie Bjorn at Chelsea, Fridolina Rolfo at Manchester United and Stina Blackstenius at Arsenal.

Bjorn’s team will be in action on the opening night of the season, with defending champions Chelsea facing Manchester City on Friday, 5 September.

Champions League winners Arsenal start their league campaign live on the BBC against newcomers London City, who have former England players Katie Zelem and Nikita Parris in their ranks.
