Leeds United have kept Ermedin Demirović among their targets after failing to complete a deal during the summer window. Sport Witness reported that Daniel Farke’s side remain interested in the VfB Stuttgart striker, citing an update from Tutto Juve. The report says Leeds had identified the 28-year-old as a priority target but could not present an offer before the deadline.
Stuttgart now reportedly want at least €35 million for a player contracted until 2028, while his Transfermarkt value stands at €22 million. Demirović has opened the 2026/27 campaign with four goals in five appearances. His biggest moment came against Viking in the Champions League, where he scored a hat-trick during Stuttgart’s 3-1 victory.

Juventus, AC Milan and Galatasaray have reportedly taken notice too, giving Stuttgart further reason to hold their price. He joined Stuttgart in 2024 and has 36 goals and 11 assists across 92 matches.
Can Leeds United justify €35m for Demirović?

For me, Demirović makes plenty of football sense for Farke, yet the money changes the argument completely. His four goals from five matches look excellent, while four goals from seven shots on target show sharp finishing. He can play as a centre-forward or second striker, drop into half-spaces, combine quickly and then attack the box. That movement can pull centre-backs out and create room for wide players. His pressing suits Farke’s aggressive approach because he can chase defenders and trigger pressure high up the pitch.

There are drawbacks. Demirović has won fewer than 42% of his aerial duels, so he isn’t an ideal target for repeated long balls. His aggressive pressing can bring fouls and cards, while heavy physical pressure can affect his passing during transitions. Still, his 15 goals and five assists last season show that the Stuttgart forward can contribute consistently.
Leeds have already spent heavily this summer, paying a club-record £40m for James Trafford and around £34m for Tarik Muharemović. Those deals reveal the scale of recent investment. Yet another €35m on a 28-year-old would carry a different financial profile, particularly without obvious resale upside.
The tactical case looks strong for Leeds. The financial case looks far less convincing. Leeds could find younger Championship forwards for less money, preserving funds while giving Farke a player who can develop. With Stuttgart holding a contract until 2028 and several European clubs watching Demirović, Leeds may need to decide whether the immediate attacking gain justifies such a large fee now.
