Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal etched his name into footballing history on Sunday, evoking memories of the legendary Pele with a stunning breakthrough goal for Spain against Saudi Arabia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Barcelona attacker scored in the 10th minute, at the age of 18y 343d, becoming only the second player aged 18 or younger to score the opening goal of a FIFA World Cup match.

The only previous player to achieve this statistic was a 17-year-old Pele, who opened the scoring for Brazil against Wales during the 1958 tournament in Sweden.
