MITCHELL — First Tee South Dakota is partnering with Lakeview Golf Course to hold a new youth development and golf skills program in the summer, the company announced on Friday.

The program at Lakeview will provide participants with hands-on instruction, fun activities, and lessons focused on First Tee’s key commitments, such as pursuing goals, growing through challenges, collaborating with others, building positive self-identity, and using good judgment.

This new program will launch in July, complementing Lakeview’s existing junior program held in June.

“We are excited to partner with Lakeview Golf Course to bring First Tee programming to Mitchell,” said First Tee CEO Julie Jansa in a release. “This expansion allows us to positively impact more kids through the game of golf while reinforcing important life skills.”

First Tee South Dakota is dedicated to providing young people with opportunities to build character, confidence, and the development of life skills through the game of golf. By introducing this program in Mitchell, the aim is to reach more youth and provide them with the tools to succeed both on and off the course. The program does not turn anyone away due to an inability to pay and equipment can be provided.

The character education programs have been offered for over 15 years and are offered at 12 golf courses, 83 schools and 2 youth centers across the state of South Dakota. The communities that First Tee maintains a partnership with in addition to Mitchell include Aberdeen, Sioux Falls, Dell Rapids, Madison, Brookings, Pine Ridge and Milbank.

At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
