The Craftsman Truck Series was one of the NASCAR touring competitions that Kyle Busch dominated.

Less than a week before his shocking death due to what his family called complications from severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis, Busch won the 69th truck race of his career at Dover. He is the winningest driver to ever compete in the series.

Busch was scheduled to compete in eight races in the Truck Series this season for Spire Motorsports. This past weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Corey Day filled in but crashed out on lap 47.

Rajah Caruth will aim to do better this Friday when he hops behind the wheel of the No. 7 HendrickCars.com truck in the Allegiance 200 at the Nashville Superspeedway.

Spire hasn’t publicly announced that Caruth will fill-in, but he was listed as the driver of the No. 7 truck on NASCAR’s online roster viewer with Brian Pattie as his crew chief on Tuesday, May 26.

The 23-year-old Caruth has competed full-time in the truck series in each of the past three seasons, but this will be his first truck race of 2026 since switching over to a schedule in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, where he’s been splitting time driving for JR Motorsports and Jordan Anderson Racing. Caruth has five top 10 finishes in the O’Reilly Series this season and will pull double duty this weekend, driving the No. 32 Chevrolet for JAR in Saturday’s O’Reilly race.

Kyle Busch’s career left a lasting mark on NASCAR, with achievements and moments that defined his time in the sport.

Caruth ran well in the truck series in previous years, and drove the past two years full-time in the circuit for Spire in the No. 71. Caruth won two races in the truck for Spire, in 2024 at Las Vegas and last year at Nashville. He had eight other top five finishes for Spire and finished in the top seven of the point standings in both seasons.

Busch was also scheduled to drive the No. 7 truck for Spire at North Wilkesboro on July 18 and Richmond on Aug. 14. Busch is NASCAR’s all-time leader in career victories across all three national touring series with 234 combined wins.

The connections Spire has with Busch run deep. The headquarters the group runs its operation out of was formerly the home of Kyle Busch Motorsports — which operated from 2010 through 2023 and won two championships in the truck series with Erik Jones and Christopher Bell. Spire’s co-owner, Jeff Dickerson, was Busch’s spotter and agent early in his career.

And of course, the final race that Busch won came in a Spire truck. Busch took the checkered flag in the No. 7 truck twice this season, also winning at Atlanta in February.

A driver that Busch mentored, Daniel Suarez, won in a Spire car on Sunday in the Coca-Cola 600 — the first NASCAR Cup Series race held following his death.

It remains unclear who will fill the seat of Busch’s Cup Series car — which has been renumbered from No. 8 to No. 33 — at Nashville. Austin Hill drove the Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing on Sunday in the Coke 600, finishing 27th.
