The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off a successful first season under head coach Mark Pope, who led his team to a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They notched eight top-15 wins this season before bowing out against rival Tennessee in the Sweet 16. Pope took over a Kentucky basketball roster that had no scholarship players when he arrived on campus and was plagued with injuries throughout the season. The Wildcats enter the offseason with optimism, despite losing four starters to graduation.

Pope used the college basketball transfer portal as much as any coach in the country last year, and he will evaluate numerous players in the coming weeks. Kentucky basketball roster news

Another big roster overhaul has arrived for Pope and his staff, with four starters graduating this spring. Jaxson Robinson, Lamont Butler, Andrew Carr and Amari Williams all played pivotal roles for Kentucky this season, while sharpshooter Koby Brea is also departing. Brea was the top shooter in the portal last year, and he was among the best shooters in college hoops this season.

Role player Ansley Almonor provided valuable minutes for Pope’s team this season, but he is out of eligibility as well. Additionally, Kerr Kriisa announced that he is entering the transfer portal after missing most of the season with an injury. Leading scorer Otega Oweh is expected to come back for another season in Lexington, while Brandon Garrison, Trent Noah, Travis Perry and Collin Chandler are among the other expected returners.

The Wildcats are welcoming a top-10 recruiting class that includes Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno, who are two of the top 30 recruits in the country. Pope will want to add some veteran experience to supplement the young talent on his roster, with defense and size being priorities. San Diego State transfer Magoon Gwath has already been in contact with Kentucky and would be a massive addition for Pope. Get the latest Kentucky basketball roster news at CatsPause.
