The Indiana racing community and racing in general has lost a special person with the passing of Charlie Shaw.
Along with many others in the racing community, I will always believe that if not for Shaw the historic Winchester Speedway would have been shuttered.

Shaw, a native of Randolph County, loved the community and Winchester Speedway, elevating it to a recognized showplace for the sport.
Along with two partners, Shaw purchased Winchester Speedway in 1997. After losing money the first year of operation the two partners decided they didn’t want to be an owner of the track.
Shaw stepped up and became the sole owner of Winchester Speedway.
He could be seen every racing weekend at the track greeting friends and competitors with a smile on his face and I never heard him express a disparaging word.
Knowing Charlie, who at the age of 90 was battling health issues this year, I’m sure he has left in place plans for the continued operation of Winchester Speedway with Dan Redmond at the controls.

The upcoming Winchester 400 will not be the same without Shaw in attendance, but his presence will continue to be felt for decades to come.

This weekend Anderson Speedway will be hosting the 11th annual Tony Elliott Classic for the yourBIGplans.com 500 Sprint Car Tour presented by CB Fabricating.
Kody Swanson has already won two sprint car races at Anderson, including the Unified Group Services Little 500 and is the current point leader.
Swanson also won a race at Salem Speedway and has been joined in the winner’s circle this year by Tyler Roahrig and Jackson Macenko.

Nathan Byrd has finished in the top five in two of the four races along with Dakoda Armstrong and Bobby Santos III.
Qualifying for the Sprint Car races at Anderson is crucial and a strong field is expected his Saturday.
Roahrig has won the Elliott Classic four times with Armstrong and Santos with two wins and Swanson and Aaron Pierce each with one victory.
There are four drivers competing for the Kenyon Midget Series championship and they will be competing in the 75-lap Don and Mel Kenyon Classic.
Isaac Johnson is the current point leaders with Aryton Houk, Evan Hammond and defending champion Dameron Taylor in the battle for the title.

The local Front Wheel Drive division will be competing in a 50-lap feature.
In other racing news: It was unfortunate to see where tempers flared at the NASCAR race at Bristol with Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney exchanging punches along pit road following the race.
Blaney was upset and believed Hocevar caused him to crash after slight contact was made on the short-track.
It’s not a great example for young drivers and other competitors at all levels to see the Cup drivers exchanging punches.
Like at any short track, rubbing is racing and from the video replay it appeared that Blaney attempted to block Hocevar when the contact was made.
