Katie Taylor enters the ring one last time on September 5 against Flora Pili. Not only will she look to end her career once again as an undisputed champion, but Taylor will finally compete at the legendary Croke Park.
Taylor (25-1) has beaten some boxing’s best. She’s a former undisputed lightweight champion. After suffering her first loss against Chantelle Cameron, Taylor beat Cameron to hold all the gold at super lightweight. “The Bray Bomber” is coming off a historic trilogy against Amanda Serrano.
It’s been an emotional week for the 2012 Olympic gold medalist. As she heads off into the sunset, Taylor, for the final time, looks to entertain the 80,000 fans that came to see her last dance.
“It’s going to be an amazing night for Irish sport, Irish boxing and women’s sport in general,” Taylor said. “… I’m so, so grateful for the support. I’m blown away by it to be quite honest. I want to put on a performance worthy of everyone’s support over the years.”
A former French national champion, Pili (12-0) has held European gold at super lightweight. Pili last fought in December, beating Jelena Janicijevic to earn her first shot at world gold.
