Blair Kerkhoff writes that Carlos Estévez is frustrated by his injury.
The team announced this week that Estevez has a right rotator cuff strain after experiencing shoulder discomfort in his first rehab assignment Wednesday. Estevez will be shut down for the next three weeks.
“It’s been a crazy first part of the year already, snowballing everything,” Estevez said before Sunday’s game. “It sucks. I’m not going to tell you I’m not mad. But it happens. I’ve been on a long run of being healthy. Knock on wood. Hopefully, this is the only thing.”
Jaylon Thompson writes about the inside-the-park home run Bobby Witt Jr. hit on Saturday.
Kauffman Stadium erupted as he crossed home plate Saturday night. The 26,724 fans in attendance knew they’d seen something special, showering him with gratitude, and the Royals never looked back.
“I feel like every base I hit, it got a little louder,” Witt said. “And so yeah, I just knew when I was rounding third, it got loud. So I just had to keep going.”
Anne Rogers has reaction from his teammates.
“All bets are off,” said Michael Massey, who added an out-of-the-park three-run homer in the fourth inning. “Usually, balls down the right-field line don’t turn into home runs in the park. Unless it’s that guy.”
“I was watching him run,” added Vinnie Pasquantino, who was in the on-deck circle. “Is he going to second or third? But then I saw the ball kick, and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s going to score.’”
She also writes about Noah Cameron’s mom Diane, throwing out the first pitch from her wheelchair.
And it sure doesn’t stop her from making sure she gives Noah her thoughts on his starts, he said with a smile.
“Yeah, they like to let me know,” Noah said, laughing. “But they’ve been there through it all. My dad was the best dad ever growing up, and still is, and my mom especially was so involved in my childhood. Just wanted to be involved in everything, school stuff, sports stuff, everything. She was super protective, especially over me because I’m the baby, which all my older siblings let me know about constantly.
“She was just always there. She’s super strong.”
