The Kansas basketball season began with promise as the No. 1 team in the AP Poll ended in disappointment, with the Jayhawks failing to win an NCAA Tournament game. That alone would likely have prompted changes for the 2025-26 Kansas basketball roster, but the rules of college eligibility also mandate changes. The Jayhawks’ top four scorers are all out of eligibility, including three-time AP All-America selection Hunter Dickinson.

A program like Kansas reloads instead of rebuilds, so you can expect the Jayhawks to lean on the college basketball transfer portal to strengthen the 2025-26 Kansas basketball roster. Who will Bill Self pluck from the portal to pair with Darryn Peterson, an incoming recruit who is ranked No. 2 overall by 247Sports? Kansas basketball roster news

After having half a dozen players enter the portal, the Jayhawks got some good news on Sunday when one of those six withdrew his name. Flory Bidunga, who was a five-star recruit out of high school, and the top-ranked center in the transfer portal, is returning to Kansas for his sophomore season. Bidunga averaged 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds last season as a reserve but is in line to see much more playing time with the departure of Dickinson, in addition to four other starters.

A player that Self would like to add alongside Bidunga in Kansas’ lineup is guard Rodney Rice. He spent last year at Maryland, where he averaged 13.8 points for a Sweet 16 team, after beginning his career at Virginia Tech. Rice has two years of eligibility remaining and is the No. 5 shooting guard in the portal. Kansas is one of many big-time programs that are interested in Rice’s services as the likes of Kentucky, Gonzaga and UConn have also been in contact with him since entering the portal. Get the latest Kansas basketball roster news at Phog.net.
