For Newcastle United, the spotlight often settles on Sandro Tonali. His return from suspension reignited Eddie Howe’s midfield. It restored rhythm and bite to their performance in the midfield. The Italian has once again become a central figure, linking defence and attack with absolute finesse and aggression.
Yet whispers of another Serie A move now unsettle the calm. According to Juve-Live, Juventus plan a bold offer to prise him away. They want to send Teun Koopmeiners and €50 million in cash to Newcastle.
Juventus plan swap deal with cash offer to tempt Newcastle over Tonali
The Italian giants view Tonali as their ideal long-term organiser in midfield. They believe he and Manuel Locatelli could help them control domestic competitions again. Ironically, we reported earlier that Newcastle United face slim chances of signing Manuel Locatelli.
This link shows how the two clubs are chasing similar targets. Juventus’ proposal looks tempting on paper, but it should not really tempt the Magpies. Koopmeiners, though talented, failed to impress after joining from Atalanta in 2024. His form dropped, and people in Turin now consider him expendable.
Tonali’s stance, however, might crush Juventus’ plan before it gains momentum. Reports claim he prefers staying at Newcastle United, and that choice could ruin Juventus’ hopes.
As Newcastle assess their options, they keep scanning Europe’s talent market. Scouts continue to watch Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sørloth as they evaluate his fit for Eddie Howe’s evolving attacking system. Yet, no matter how many players they track, losing Tonali could shake a team still defining its long-term identity under Howe.
Tonali’s Future: A Balancing Act Between Loyalty and Logic
Selling Tonali now makes little sense for Newcastle. The club spent €70 million (£60 million) to sign him. He has already rewarded that faith through his performances and influence in the dressing room. The 25-year-old thrives alongside Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton.
That trio gives balance that helped them win the League Cup. Beyond his quality, he is loyal to the club and shows gratitude to the club for backing him during his ban. His agent even dismissed talk of an early Serie A return.
However, football changes quickly. The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules pressure every financial decision. A huge offer from Juventus could ease those pressures, but selling him would strip the team of a leader. Tonali’s contract runs until 2028, yet Newcastle must act soon to extend it before others move in.
The new sporting director, Ross Wilson, will lead those talks. He needs to keep Tonali the top priority. If the Magpies sell him, then it would reflect short-sighted thinking. At 25, he provides both strength and promise.
Newcastle United should build around him, not replace him. The club must protect its core and reward loyalty with commitment. What do you think? Should Newcastle cash in or double down on Tonali’s future?
