Justin Thomas has never had much joy at The Open Championship, and that was no different at Royal Birkdale.
He made the cut, but finished T65 at three-over par, shooting a 76 on Sunday to fall way off the leading pack.

That compounded a disappointing trip over the Atlantic for the two-time PGA Championship winner. Thomas finished T50 in Scotland the week before The Open.
Thomas’ midseason form has been incredibly consistent. He finished in the top 25 seven times between the Cadillac Championship and the Travelers Championship, and was T4 at the PGA Championship.
He gave an honest assessment on the state of his game after a lacklustre showing at Birkdale.

Justin Thomas says he’s playing better than his results show
Thomas has been playing some solid golf in recent months, and all that’s been missing is a week where he contends for a win.

But speaking on social media after The Open, he insisted that better results are coming soon.
He posted, “That’s a wrap on the trip across the pond. Always love coming back for @TheOpen, there’s just nothing like links golf and the atmosphere that comes with it. Huge congrats to @ryanfoxgolfer on the win. Well played!
“Playing too much good golf lately to have the results I have… time to get some rest and get to work. No better time than the present to finish this season off strong!”
Thomas’ ball striking during his good run of form has been consistent off the tee and on approach. His best putting performance led to his top-five finish at the PGA Championship.

If he puts all these areas of his game together one week, then don’t be surprised to see him pick up his first win of the year.
