The stars of the PGA Tour are back this week with the latest signature event on the calendar at the Cadillac Championship. The Cadillac is a new event on the calendar in 2026, so everyone is out to prove that they can conquer Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster Course.

Justin Rose came into the Cadillac in fine form after another top-five finish at the Masters, but he is also debuting a new set of clubs this week. Rose recently signed with McLaren Golf as its first global ambassador, and this is his first week playing with those clubs.
Rose had a nightmare first round at the Cadillac on Thursday, finishing with a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 52nd place after 18 holes. The advanced stats weren’t any better and ranked among Rose’s worst rounds of the year, per Rick Gehman.
“Justin Rose lost 2.26 strokes ball-striking and 4.83 strokes tee-to-green today,” Gehman wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “That’s his second worst ball-striking and worst tee-to-green round of his year.”
The Cadillac is a no-cut, limited field tournament, so Rose will still be able to get all 72 holes in. But with Cam Young at 8-under after firing a 64 and Jordan Spieth right behind him at 7-under par, it’s hard to see Rose climbing back into contention.

Rose had been striking the ball about as well as anybody on tour this season, so it was a bit surprising to see him struggle so much at a course with low scores available on Thursday. Now, the storyline becomes whether he can recover, or how long it will take him to recover, as he gets used to his new sticks.
Rose will go off in the afternoon wave for his second round on Friday as he looks to get back into the tournament. He will go off with Adam Scott, who also had a rough first round at 4-over par.
