Wideout Ladd McConkey had some major praise for quarterback Justin Herbert after the star quarterback led the Los Angeles Chargers to a game-winning drive in Sunday’s 29-27 win over the Miami Dolphins.
“[Herbert] is a top quarterback in this league, if not the top one,” he told SI.com’s Albert Breer. “When we have No. 10 back there, we always have a chance.”
Herbert is not the top quarterback in a league that features Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow, but he’s certainly in that next tier behind them. It showed on Sunday.
Herbert and McConkey teamed up for the crucial play on the winning drive, a 42-yard catch-and-scamper after the quarterback wriggled free from pressure that put the team in field-goal position for Cameron Dicker’s game-sealing kick.
Herbert finished 29-of-38 for 264 yards and two touchdowns, registering no turnovers. Given how beat up the Chargers are on the offensive side of the ball—they were missing a number of offensive linemen, wideout Quentin Johnston and running backs Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris on Sunday alone—it was an impressive performance.
