Twelve years ago, if someone said Johnny Manziel would still be taking place in a high-profile competition, one may have assumed his life as an NFL first-round quarterback panned out after winning a Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M.
Instead, Manziel will be making a brief return into the public eye on Saturday night when he competes in an MMA fight against social media star Bob Menery.
The 33-year-old former quarterback’s fight against Menery will be one of 11 events on the card for Brand Risk 14 in Las Vegas, an event that will feature both MMA and boxing bouts.
Here’s what’s known about the rules for Manziel vs. Menery.

Johnny Manziel vs. Bob Menery fight rules

The exact rules for the fight between Manziel and Menery haven’t been made fully clear, as it was originally reported that the two would face off in a boxing match. Instead, they will be meeting in an MMA-style fight.
In a pre-fight interview with streamer Adin Ross, whose promotion is putting on the event, Menery said he wanted the fight to be MMA. Ross said the fight will be under amateur MMA rules, meaning elbows and knees to the head will be illegal, and according to Full Send MMA, 6-ounce gloves will be used.
The weight limit also hasn’t been made fully clear. Menery previously said on social media that he is attempting to add 25 pounds to keep up with Manziel.
“I have so many disadvantages in this thing. He’s got me by 25 pounds and I have to, like, just try to force myself to eat 24/7 for regulation s—,” Menery said. He later posted to social media that both fighters made their weight.
However, according to the Brand Risk site, the two are scheduled to fight for three rounds.
