Jimmie Johnson will compete in his final NASCAR Cup Series race at the 2027 Daytona 500, and it will be even more special now. On Sunday afternoon, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick announced that Johnson will be able to drive the No. 48 car for Legacy Motor Club in his final Cup Series start at Daytona International Speedway.
Alex Bowman, who currently drives the No. 48 car for Hendrick Motorsports, will drive a different number in what could be his final Daytona 500 as well. Ally Financial and NASCAR had to improve the special circumstance for Johnson, who will close out his Cup Series career with the number he started with at Hendrick Motorsports.
