Jesse Love hit out at NASCAR Race Control after the weather-shortened O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Charlotte, calling the sanctioning body’s handling of the event a “complete joke” following a chaotic and emotional weekend.

Heavy rain and thick fog disrupted racing throughout the weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with NASCAR eventually calling the race early after lengthy caution periods and worsening conditions.

Jesse Love furious with NASCAR Race Control after Charlotte race

The race changed dramatically after oil dropped onto the track triggered multiple incidents, including damage for race leader Chastain.

NASCAR kept the field circulating under caution as the rain intensified, before eventually bringing everyone to pit road and ending the race shortly afterwards.

Love made it clear after climbing from the car that he strongly disagreed with how officials handled the closing stages.

“I’m mad, so I think it’s a complete joke, handling it how they handled it,” Love said.

“I was really mad when they got out of the car for obvious reasons.”

The frustration was visible during the final laps under caution, where Love appeared to intentionally nose ahead of Chastain while crossing the stage line.

Many drivers and teams were left confused by NASCAR’s decision not to red-flag the race earlier as weather conditions rapidly deteriorated around the speedway.

Love also reflected on emotional NASCAR weekend

Despite his anger over the officiating, Love also acknowledged the wider emotional atmosphere hanging over the NASCAR garage throughout the weekend following the death of Kyle Busch.

The RCR driver admitted the events of the week had changed how he viewed the disappointment of losing the race.

“Then I kind of realised, if this week has taught us anything, it’s that all this doesn’t matter as much as we think it does. There’s things way more important than a trophy.”

Love specifically mentioned the Busch family and those close to Richard Childress Racing while explaining why the defeat still carried emotional weight.

“I’m just feeling so hard for Brexton, and Lennix, and Samantha — the parents, and everybody at RCR. That’s where the hurt and the anger comes from, right? Wanting to win for those people.”

Even while criticising NASCAR’s decisions, Love ultimately admitted the perspective created by the emotional week helped soften the frustration of the result itself.

“Having said all that, it doesn’t really matter, does it.”

The comments reflected both the tension surrounding NASCAR’s handling of the race and the emotional reality facing the garage during one of the sport’s most difficult weekends in recent memory.
