Jamie McMurray has called out Carson Hocevar’s “poor decisions” after the Darlington drama. The NASCAR veteran believes Hocevar prioritizes his aggressive persona over earning his peers’ respect.
At Darlington, Hocevar made multiple contacts with Brad Keselowski and spun him out, but shrugged off the incident post-race. His demeanor drew backlash online, while Keselowski vowed retaliation down the road.

In the latest episode of Door Bumper Clear, McMurray addressed the matter, saying:
“When you look at Carson, he’s in the bottom handful of racing IQ guys in the field. He just continues to make poor decisions. The ultimate gift you can have in racing is to have the respect of your peers and the people around you. And he doesn’t have that.
“I feel like with Carson, it’s almost like he has bought into this, how do I sell t-shirts? And that’s become more important versus the respect of the people that are around you and I think it’s a terrible path to go down, but that’s the path that he has chosen to go down and it’s just hard to watch,” he added.
Hocevar went on to finish 11th and failed to score any stage points. Meanwhile, Keselowski had a tough time recovering, as he later spun out by himself while heading down pit road. The former Cup champion ended up finishing 23rd.
Darlington was the latest of Hocevar’s antics. At New Hampshire recently, he cleared himself off the nose of Connor Zilisch and later doored the Trackhouse Racing driver in retaliation.
Denny Hamlin refuses to engage with Carson Hocevar’s narrative
Denny Hamlin weighed in on the Carson Hocevar situation by taking aim at Spire Motorsports instead. The JGR ace refused to give Hocevar any more attention.
“You’re not going to get anything more from me because I’m not going to give him what he wants. I’m not going to give him the clip that he wants. Period,” Hamlin said on the latest episode of Actions Detrimental.
Hamlin criticized Spire Motorsports for condoning Hocevar’s actions and called them an “unserious” organization. Spire Motorsports had previously released a social media graphic that embraced the criticism surrounding Hocevar.

After Darlington, Hocevar doubled down on the rivalry and reposted Keselowski’s threat with an additional 6% off on his merch store, in reference to the No. 6 driver. He also gave out a 23% discount for moving up that many positions during the Southern 500.
Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern reported that Hocevar’s store generated nearly $200,000 in the 24 hours since Sunday’s race. His on-track performance, meanwhile, has failed to match expectations.
In his last five outings, Hocevar recorded an average finish of 27th and finished on the lead lap in only one race. The No. 77 driver currently stands 12th in the standings, while his teammate Daniel Suarez sits right behind in 13th.
