Jacksonville’s Right Field Power Alley is now open. Check out video.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp has opened Right Field Power Alley. It features 180 seats at $15 apiece at VyStar Ballpark in Jacksonville, Fla. and also and air-conditioned facility complete with a bar called Right Field Hall.
- Jacksonville University men’s golf team finished fifth in the ASUN Championship.
- Marsh Landing won the FSGA Men’s Interclub Championship.
- UNF’s Kaitlyn Schroeder made the All-ASUN first team in women’s golf.
Jacksonville University got three under-par rounds from its starters and finished in fifth place in the ASUN Men’s Golf Championship on April 22-24 at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. JU (15-under as a team) finished 11 shots behind winner Central Arkansas, with Stetson second, one shot back.
Freshman Brandon Lohr (71) of Orlando was the top finisher among Dolphins players in a tie for sixth at 6-under 210, five shots behind winner Gaspar Glaudes of Stetson. Tomas Hjaltested (73) tied for 11th at 5-under, Daniel Montalvo (70) tied for 19th at 3-under and Will Harris (70) tied for 26th at 1-under.
The Dolphins have finished fifth or higher in eight of the last nine ASUN tournaments.
Danny Erickson (70) and Jason Duff (72) were the low University of North Florida players, tied for 13th at 4-under. Filippo Serra (72) tied for 26th at 1-under. The Ospreys finished sixth, three shots behind JU, and posted their lowest finish ever in the ASUN championship, after finishing fourth or higher in 19 consecutive tournaments, with seven conference titles.
UNF also will likely miss the NCAA Regionals for the first time in 15 years. Central Arkansas will earn the conference’s automatic bid.
Florida Gulf Coast freshman Nolan Harper (70), a Beachside graduate, tied for sixth to lead the Eagles to a third-place finish at 23-under. North Alabama was fourth at 16-under.
Marsh Landing wins FSGA Men’s Interclub
The First Coast has swept the Florida State Golf Association’s Interclub Championships.
Two weeks after Palencia won the Women’s Interclub, Marsh Landing captured the Men’s championship at the ChampionsGate Golf Club’s International Course on April 22-23.
Marsh Landing scored 401 points under a net Stableford format to nip the Orange Tree Golf Club by two points. The Tiger Point Golf and Country Club was third with 397 points and Palencia fourth with 391.
Marsh Landing and Palencia were tied for first after the first round with 203 points.
The format was counting six scores of the 10 players entered each day. Three Marsh Landing players had their scores counted both days, led by Tom Alter with 71 total points. Bruce Barger scored 70 and Rick Catlett 67.
The rest of the Marsh Landing team was Andy Pazder, Barry Curley, Chris Martin, Lee Baggs, Mark Blakefield, Rick Theiler and Trevor Stanton.
Shane Sheltra led Palencia with 70 points, followed by Dean Sutherby with 69, Jim Prantl with 64 and Tom Cregg with 62. The other team members were Gary Ward, Toby Luttropp, Dustin Enterline, Morton Manassaram, Chad Chuchwell and Larry Baker.
Kaitlyn Schroeder is All-ASUN
University of North Florida sophomore Kaitlyn Schroeder made the All-ASUN first team in women’s golf, with senior Casilda Allendesalazar making the second team for the second year in a row.
Schroeder led the Ospreys with six top-10 finishes in 10 events this season and was sixth in last week’s ASUN Tournament.
UNF has had a player on the first team for the last seven years in a row and have had two all-conference players for the 10th time in 11 years. Allendesalazar had three top 10s and led UNF with six top-25 finishes.
Senior Kaitlyn Washburn was named to the ASUN’s All-Academic team, the 11th year in a row a UNF player has been cited. She has a 4.0 GPA, majoring in business analytics.
Flagler women ranked third
After finishing third in the Peach Belt Tournament last week, the Flagler College women’s golf team dropped third in the national Scoreboard NCAA Division II rankings.
Three Flagler players are among the top 40 nationally, Stella Jelinek at fourth, Henriette Stranda at ninth and Jordyn Hodgson at 37th.
Flagler will know their NCAA regional tournament site on April 28.
Florida State Golf Association results
Maria Nilsson of St. Augustine shot 9-over 151 to win the Senior Net flight in the FSGA Senior Women’s Amateur April 22-24 at the Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course. Xiaolin Jones of St. Augustine (157) was fourth and Liz Breza of St. Augustine (163) was sixth. … Therese Quinn of Jacksonville (29-over 242) was eighth in the Senior Championship division and Tama Caldabaugh of Ponte Vedra Beach and Lin Culver of Palm Coast tied for 10th (31-over 244). Carolyn Creekmore of Ponte Vedra (23-over 165) tied for fourth in the Super Senior Division. … Bob Wallace of Palencia finished sixth in the FSGA Senior Open April 22-24 at the Aberdeen Golf and Country Club in Boynton Beach. He finished five shots behind winner Rod Perry. John Lobb of Jacksonville (222) tied for 17th and Robert Forde of Orange Park (224) tied for 25th. Lobb was fifth in the amateur division.
