Liverpool’s first signing of the summer has spoken — and Jeremie Frimpong has made it clear that he is here for silverware. The Dutch international arrives at Anfield fresh from a historic double-winning season with Bayer Leverkusen, where he played a vital role in an unbeaten Bundesliga campaign. Now, under the guidance of newly crowned Premier League-winning manager Arne Slot, Frimpong is eager to keep that success rolling.
“Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,” he said. “Whatever you guys do, just get this done.”
That no-nonsense determination already feels like a perfect match for Slot’s high-intensity football and Liverpool’s insatiable appetite for trophies.

Premier League Champions Attract a Proven Winner
Slot’s appointment may have raised questions initially, but his debut season delivered emphatic answers. Liverpool are Premier League champions once more, blending resilience with attacking precision. Frimpong, watching from afar during his summer break, was inspired by what he saw. “Of course I saw that. When that was happening I was on holiday, so obviously I saw it on social media. Amazing! I want to be part of that, 100 per cent.”
The 24-year-old is no stranger to success. A treble-winner with Celtic before lifting the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal with Leverkusen, he’s hungry to continue the pattern. “For me, everywhere I’ve been I’ve always won things. So yes, I want to win trebles, I want to win trophies – I play football to win trophies.”
This is no empty promise. Slot’s first campaign proved he could deliver results while cultivating talent. Now he adds one of Europe’s most exciting right-sided players to his squad — someone with pace, energy and ambition to match.
Familiar Faces and Instant Chemistry
Frimpong won’t be starting from scratch. He already has strong links with Liverpool’s Dutch contingent — Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch. That, combined with his upbringing in England, should ease his transition. “I was born in Amsterdam but I was raised in England so of course I know the culture. I think I’m going to settle in well,” he said.
He’s even tried his hand at Scouse, as a viral video with Ryan Gravenberch proved earlier this year. “I didn’t know it was going to go that viral! But yeah, it was funny, I appreciate the support.”
These personal connections will serve him well at a club where team unity is paramount. Frimpong has already spoken to Van Dijk about the culture and expectations at Anfield — and he’s taken it all on board. “Virgil has called me and told me a little bit more about Liverpool and the expectations… They have told me good things.”

Slot’s Belief and the Road Ahead
Perhaps the most intriguing element of Frimpong’s arrival is the player-manager dynamic. Having made his name at Feyenoord, Slot is well-known among the Eredivisie players. That reputation clearly resonated with Frimpong before Liverpool ever came calling. “Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like, ‘He’s the best coach I’ve ever had.’”
And the early conversations between player and manager have only reinforced that excitement. “He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed. Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence.”
Frimpong knows there’s still room for improvement. His path from Manchester City’s academy to European stardom has been swift, but not without hard lessons. “I was immature back then… My brother gave me a wake-up call. It was needed, 100 per cent.” That humility and drive to evolve will serve him well in a squad loaded with world-class talent.
He now joins a Liverpool side that boasts the likes of Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker, and he’s ready to rise to the challenge. “Playing with world-class players as a footballer is a great feeling, it’s a privilege… I can’t wait to link up with [Salah] – hopefully we link up well.”
Frimpong is already looking ahead to what might be. “Look at my tablet and be like, ‘Yeah, I’ve won this trophy, this trophy, this trophy.’”
It’s early days, but the message is clear — Liverpool, Jeremie Frimpong and Arne Slot are united by a common goal: more trophies, more joy and a new era of dominance.
