The NASCAR Cup Series has another Sunday off this weekend after the Coke Zero Sugar 400 race on Aug. 23 at Daytona.
The Saturday night race at Daytona was the regular-season finale and set the Cup Series playoff field ahead of next week’s race at Darlington.
The Southern 500 next weekend will open the Round of 16, the first of three races before the first elimination.
Here’s what to know about the upcoming NASCAR schedule:
No. The NASCAR Cup Series raced on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Daytona International Speedway in the regular-season finale.
Ryan Blaney outlasted Daniel Suarez, Justin Haley and Cole Custer in a four-wide finish to win the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on Aug. 23. Blaney earned his second win of the season.
Tyler Reddick and Alex Bowman secured the final two remaining playoff spots on points.
The Cup Series will race next weekend at Darlington in a crown jewel event, the Southern 500. It’s the playoff opener and the first race in the Round of 16.
The Southern 500 is scheduled for a 5 p.m. CT start on Sunday, Aug. 31.
