It’s now-or-never time for a handful of NASCAR playoff racers as the final race in the Round of 12 goes green Sunday on the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course, known by all as the Roval, which is still rather young but acts a bit ornery.

Chase Elliott (eighth) and Joey Logano (ninth) sit on opposite sides of the playoff bubble after last Sunday at Talladega. Since only the top eight stay alive in the playoffs and move along to Las Vegas next week for … that’s right … the Round of 8! Others are in danger of slipping below the line while others are on the outside looking in but within mathematical range.

Also this weekend, if you’re a sports-car fan or simply looking for a cool mix of auto racing, NASCAR’s sports-car arm — IMSA — concludes its 2024 season with the third longest race on its schedule, the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

IMSA’s WeatherTech Championship includes four classes of competition (GT Prototypes, Le Mans Prototypes, and two classes of GTD muscle cars — pro and pro-am). All four championships are on the line this week.
