Smalley sits at 6-under after a third-round 68, but Reuters noted the leaderboard is unusually crowded for a major championship, with 43 players within five shots of the lead heading into Sunday. Smalley birdied six of his final 14 holes Saturday to grab control, yet he is still chasing the biggest win of his career against one of the deepest leaderboards of the season.
