As of Friday, American golfer JJ Spaun holds the lead, sitting at nine under par seven holes into the second round. The leaderboard is tight, however, as Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune is on strike behind at eight under par through 10 holes. After that duo, three other golfers are within two strokes of the lead: Americans Eric Cole and Gary Woodland, and Norway’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen.

The prize purse for this event is $9.9 million, while the reigning champion is American golfer Ben Griffin, who shot 12 under par and took home 500 FedEx Cup points along with $1.71 million. Griffin is currently tied for 21st at this year’s event, sitting at four under par eight holes into the second round. Griffin is going to need a big second round if he wants to retain his place as the champion of the Charles Schwab Challenge.
The PGA Tour is coming off last week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson tournament, which Wyndham Clark won by shooting 30 under par for the event, three strokes clear of second-place Kim Si Woo.

Next up is next week’s Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a course known for being designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. That event will have a $20 million prize purse.
