In sum, this West Coast road trip is horribly timed if one thing you care about is bringing casual fans back into the fold. And, frankly, I don’t like it either!

My relationship to West Coast games is constantly evolving. When I was a kid, these swings had the feel of explorations into unknown territories. What did Angel Stadium look like? Who was even on the A’s? I barely knew and I devoured the Boston Globe game recaps every morning like they were dispatches from foreign lands.
In early adulthood, I came to love the West Coast trips, as they combined two of my greatest passions: baseball and late nights in bars.
Now as a parent of young children, I have mixed emotions. On one hand, these are among the few games I actually get to watch totally uninterrupted, without having to worry about getting dinner on the table, reading bedtime stories, or staunching the bleeding from whatever head wound has recently befallen my house. But on the other hand, I have zero interest in staying up past midnight. We need to play the Rockies more, is what I’m saying, that mountain time zone is right in the sweet spot.
