As the highest-ranked golfer in the world for years, Scheffler has regularly dominated PGA Tour events since turning professional in 2018, including four major wins. All that winning has brought along a historic amount of cash.

Entering the 2026 BMW Championship — a tournament he won in 2025 — Scheffler is on the verge of becoming the PGA Tour’s all-time earnings leader.

How much money does Scottie Scheffler need to earn to pass Tiger Woods?

Scheffler is just over $1 million in earnings away from passing Woods as the PGA Tour’s all-time leading earner. More specifically, he needs to make $1,034,755 more to surpass Woods.

The majority of that accomplishment is about Scheffler’s dominance across the sport for years. He has won 21 PGA Tour events, including four majors. But, of course, there’s also the difference in payouts and inflation when comparing Scheffler’s career, which began in 2018, and Woods’, which began in 1996.

Woods has accumulated 82 wins on the PGA Tour, which is tied for first all-time. Scheffler has 21 wins in his PGA Tour career so far.

Scheffler recently acknowledged the pursuit difference in his career vs. Woods’.

“What, am I like a fourth of the way there?” Scheffler said of his wins total, per Golf.com. “Tiger did a lot for the game of golf and he put us in a position where we’re able to earn some pretty good stuff financially, so that’s something we’re very grateful for. Tiger’s contributions to the game, when you look at where the purses were at before he came out on Tour to where they’re at now is a pretty stark difference.”

According to Golf.com, Scheffler has made 157 starts on the PGA Tour, averaging $763,054 per start. Woods, meanwhile, made 137 starts and averaged $284,574 per start in his first seven seasons, with 16 more wins than Scheffler.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour earnings record

Woods’ record PGA Tour earnings stand at $120,999,166. Hypothetically, it’s a total that he could continue adding to — Woods isn’t yet considered retired. But with his recent injury issues, and stepping away from golf earlier in 2026 following a DUI incident, Woods hasn’t participated in a PGA Tour event since July 2024.

Rory McIlroy is another name who could pass Woods within the next year or two, currently around $4 million shy of the record.
