How Enrique Riquelme positioned himself as Real Madrid’s future despite losing presidential election

Despite falling short at the ballot box, his campaign succeeded in proving that he possesses the resources and structure required to challenge for the presidency.

Riquelme managed to satisfy those requirements, securing backing worth close to €190 million through personal assets, which has positioned him well for future elections.

His proposed structure included Raul in a leading sporting role, while Fernando Hierro was identified as a potential figure within the academy setup.

Furthermore, he also brought up significant names such as Rodri and Erling Haaland in the discussion during the build-up, stating,

“If I am president, these 2 players (Rodri and Haaland) will play for Real Madrid.”

According to the report, although the businessman is expected to return his focus to his professional ventures, he is also aware that remaining visible among the Real Madrid fanbase will be essential if he wants to build on the momentum created by his first campaign.

Monitoring the club’s direction, particularly any discussions involving ownership structures or major institutional changes, could become a key part of his long-term strategy.

Just as importantly, he now has first-hand experience of running a presidential campaign at one of the biggest football institutions in the world. The lessons learned from this election could prove invaluable if and when he decides to stand again.
